Learning children's rights through play - three project weeks on this topic took place in winter 2019/2020 at different primary schools in Berlin in grades 4-6. In December 2019 at the Andersen Grundschule (Andersen Primary School) in Berlin Wedding, in January 2020 at the Wilhelm von Humboldt Gemeinschaftsschule (Wilhelm von Humboldt Community School) in Prenzlauer Berg and finally in February at the Ringelnatz Grundschule (Ringelnatz Primary School) in Reinickendorf-Wittenau.
During the project weeks, the children not only learned about their right to leisure, their own opinions, to play and to rest. They also exchanged ideas with children from Tanzania and Uganda and asked each other about their living conditions, hobbies and children's rights. They also showed each other their favourite dances! Project partners were Michael Mwase from the Rainbow House of Hope in Kampala, Uganda, and Dr. Alex Lenguju from the Canaan Children's Center in Arusha, Tanzania - many thanks to them!
The children then creatively transformed all the knowledge they had gathered and the experiences of the exchange in the form of various digital learning media. Several songs, online games and videos on children's rights were created. Actually, the learning media were supposed to be further developed by the children in subsequent regular workshops; unfortunately, this was not possible due to the school closure caused by the pandemic. The team of LHS Futureworks therefore completed the media on behalf of the children. Here you can find the results of the Andersen Primary School, the Wilhelm von Humboldt School and the Ringelnatz Primary School.
