At the Grundschule unter den Kastanien (Primary School under the Chestnut) in Berlin Lichterfelde Ost, three project weeks were carried out in November and December 2022. The 5th grade pupils explored a complex and highly relevant topic that many will be familiar with: climate change! Through imaginary journeys, games and discussions, the children learned a lot about the consequences and causes of the climate crisis and what they themselves have to do with it.
A special highlight was a video exchange with peers from Tanzania and Uganda! The children were able to ask each other questions about their hobbies and realities of life and also learned how climate change is affecting different parts of the world.
Finally, the pupils were able to be active and creative themselves! In the last days of the project week, the children transformed what they had learned into creative learning media: they composed songs, designed games and drew their own comics. You can find a selection of the results here on this page - enjoy reading, listening and playing!
