Wolf Live!

Project week | Ringelnatz Primary School | 12/11-17/11/2018

Wolf Live

Project report

An exciting project week at Ringelnatz Grundschule (Ringelnatz Primary School) is coming to an end! Using the wolf as an example, the children explored the topic of biodiversity in a very concrete way. Only recently, wolves were reintroduced into the wild in Germany - and this allows us to observe how the extinction or growth of an animal species affects an ecosystem in a very concrete way.

Class 5b was able to experience very different fields of learning during this week. Not only did the students learn a lot about the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) - especially Goal 15 "Life on Land" - but they also talked about their everyday life and their experiences with free-living wolves with students from Restelica School in Kosovo! During an excursion to the Schorfheide Wildlife Park, the children even got to know real wolves and learned a lot about their natural habitat.

The children from Ringelnatz Primary School then creatively wrapped up all the knowledge they had gathered in an online game they developed themselves. In "Wolf Live!" the player slips into the role of a free-living wolf and gains experience playing with other wolves. Afterwards, a quiz will test your knowledge about wolves - can you answer all the questions correctly?

Open Educational Resource on "Wolf Live"

You would like to discuss the topic of wolves and biodiversity in class or in a workshop with children? This handout explains how the game "Wolf Live" can be used to teach children important knowledge about ecosystems in a playful way. It is available for free download as a PDF document.

"Wolf Live" awarded by NABU!

"The wolf is in school" - this was the motto of this year's competition of NABU (Naturschutzbund Deutschland e.V. - Nature and Biodiversity Conservation Union of Germany), which awarded prizes for school and non-school educational programmes on the subject of the wolf. And the development of the educational game "Wolf Live" was awarded as one of the three best projects! The pupils of Ringelnatz Primary School not only won a 1,500 euro voucher for the NABU shop, they can also look forward to a visit by the NABU wolf expert at their school!
